Born and raised in Philadelphia, Ted Fink received a BA in creative writing, a Master's degree in Educational Administration and taught for ten years in the Philadelphia school system. He started writing poetry when he was five, stories when he was twelve and music when he was eighteen. He opened his first business (the Rib Ranch Restaurants) when he was twenty-three, created Bi-centennial Host Houses when he was thirty-five. From 1977 to 1981 he was co-owner of Superior Fish Company, the largest exporter of Anquilla Rostrata in America shipping millions of pounds to Europe and Japan. In 1983 he built (actually hammered every nail) the home in which he still resides. He has been married to the same woman for forty years and has two splendid children to prove it.
He started as a singer/songwriter and still uses songs and music to enhance his intense, humorous and poignant monologues. He is the ultimate performance artist. He has acted in several major theatrical productions, and for two years shared the lead in the hilarious off- Broadway success, Grandma Silvia's Funeral.
His latest endeavors incorporate a wide range of both entertaining and educational projects. From producing and hosting a monthly show entitled "On Stage" which spotlighted both troubadours and raconteurs to creating a poetry workshop for elementary school students to filming his classic story, "Lost in the Ooze,” His annual singer/songwriter slam is a highlight of the Chestnut Hill Book Festival. Many things may change but one constant will always remain—Count on Ted Fink to push the boundaries of traditional story telling.
He has proven time and time again that his stories cross the barriers of age, and all who hear him fall under his spell.
